SMB, SEO, SEM, LSE, WMM, SMM, SMO, G+1 ... - Page1Listings.com

Just in case you aren?t keeping up, I have created my own personal definitions of the terms of trade for WBMC, aka web based marketing consultants, who specialize in SLBM, Small Local Business Marketing.

SMB ? Small Business, and while the government definition of small business is under 500 employees, I think most folks think that a small business is much smaller than that.

SEO ? Search Engine Optimization or the process of optimizing your online media in various channels so that it can be found by search engines.

Media ? a piece of content such as an article, post, page, video, tweet, update, advertisement.

Channel ? a place where you find media.? Examples would be Facebook, YouTube, Blogger, but would also include your own channel within the larger channel.

SEM ? Search Engine Marketing.? This term means many things to many people, but generally includes online advertising such as PPC (pay per click), banner ads, etc.? But may also mean the broader business of an overall marketing campaign that is online.

LSE ? Local Search Engines is a broad term that may encompass any type of directory, YP (Yellow Pages), regional or industry listing, or other online resource such as Google Places that specifically lists local businesses.

WMM ? Word of Mouth Marketing ? I may have made this up, or I may have seen it once.? Seems like if it isn?t in the lexicon, it should be.

SMM ? Social Media Marketing ? The general effort to create visibility and conversion for companies and brands through the use of some or all social media channels.

SMO ? Social Media Optimization ? The creation of methods on site and off that are designed to increase traffic to the social media channel of the company or brand, and provide a great opportunity for the visitor to make a decision to do business or continue doing business.

G+1 ? A way to like something you?ve seen online.? Someday it may be really critical in page rank for your media or channel.? Right now, I?m betting that 3% of the population have ever +1?d anything.

G+L ? One has to assume that Google+ Local cannot stay that long, so allow me to be the first (assuming a lot) to shorten this king of the world for small business channel to G+L.

LOL ? Can mean laughing out loud that these abbreviations are meaningless to a huge percentage of the SMB?s that need SEO, SEM, and SMO, so that they will have great SMM, WMM, and SEM.? Last I checked close to 50% of these folks don?t even have a website.? Last I checked 50% of those that do haven?t touched their website for 10 years.

IMHO ? By this time next year the list will be longer.? Anyone have any doubts?

Popularity: unranked [?]
