Kraft reaffirms desire for London franchise

By Jamie McCracken, USA TODAY

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft wants an NFL team located across the pond.

During his tour through London to promote the league's International Series, Kraft told Neil Reynolds of Sky Sports he hopes to see a franchise located in London within the next decade.

"I personally think we should have a franchise in London and that is something I am going to push for," Kraft said. "I think I said that the last time we were over here in 2009 and before this next decade is out, I hope we have a team here. I think that would be right for the NFL and this fan base has proven they deserve it."

This will be the sixth consecutive season the NFL has played a game in England -- the Patriots will play the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, Oct. 28. at Wembley Stadium. The NFL confirmed there will be at least one game every season in London until 2016. (The International Series began in 2005, but there was no game played in 2006.)

Kraft said in order to expand the game, owner's are at least trying to get two games in London starting next year.

"The only bad part of putting a franchise in London is that I can assure you it won't be the Patriots who are moving here," Kraft said.

The Rams will play in the annual overseas game for the next three years.

Here's how the games unfolded since the league took its talents to other countries:

* 2005: Arizona Cardinals 31, San Francisco 49ers 14 (Mexico)
* 2007: Miami Dolphins 10, New York Giants 13 (London)
* 2008: Sand Diego Chargers 32, New Orleans Saints 37 (London)
* 2009: New England Patriots 35, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 7(London)
* 2010: San Francisco 49ers 24, Denver Broncos 16(London)
* 2011: Chicago Bears 28, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 18 (London -- This is the only game that has featured two teams from the same conference.)

Rebellion and Fuse Powered bring top-down undead shooter Zombie HQ to iPhone and iPad

Publisher Fuse Powered and UK-based developer Rebellion have collaborated on a new free-to-play iPhone and iPad title called Zombie HQ.

In this undead-filled experience, you're tasked with fending off hordes of flesh-eaters, rescuing any survivors you happen to cross paths with, and, strangely, pimping your "ultimate man-cave" in a Cribs-esque fashion.

"Zombie HQ, with its twist on zombie warfare and tongue-in-cheek humor, will provide players with hours of entertainment," Jon Walsh, Fuse Powered's CEO, said.

"The mix of RPG, shooter and building aspects of the game create a unique experience for players, and combined with the humor and extensive customization features, make Zombie HQ an amusing adventure."

On the hunt

There are three different maps to explore and 18 different missions to undertake in this top-down shooter, including scavenger hunts, food drops, and boss battles.

As you complete these missions, you'll level-up your character and increase his attributes, and gain access to shotguns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, machine guns, and flamethrowers.

You can download Zombie HQ for free right now.

Executives Discover Innovative Leadership Solutions Via Venture ...

Posted on29 June 2012.

Executives who need to develop innovative leadership solutions should research creative financing sources when planning their new business, product or service strategies. Entrepreneurs don?t have to travel any further than their personal computer for news about raising venture capital funds.

Venture capital is one industry that has been around for the past 60 years or so. However, just like every other industry, it continues to evolve and change. Much of the VC industry?s success is due to the explosive growth of the Internet. The Web has made many information-gathering tasks faster and easier. Updates on venture capitalists and various kinds of venture capital news are readily accessible to the world?s citizens through online media.

Aside from the World Wide Web, there are other sources of venture capital news. Old, traditional sources such as newspapers and magazines continue to provide the necessary candidate criteria or details and information that venture capitalists and entrepreneurs need. These are also good sources of legal updates in the field of venture capital.

Information contributions by VC partners or research associates are published in paper periodicals, magazines or newspapers and can also be found on the Internet. Aside from the printed materials in circulation, some partners even write blogs and lens, operate their own websites and share their expertise in web-posted articles or ezines.

Newsletters and emails are also sources of news. Visitors to a VC-specific site will usually find offers for subscriptions to their daily or weekly newsletters. Inside these publications, sponsoring service providers empower entrepreneurs by providing them with useful articles and practical information. Additional contributions from business experts and capitalists can also be found in these news organs.

Discussion groups and forums are also good venues for posting updates. Online groups, bulletin boards, chatrooms and membership sites give you the ability to exchange ideas and interact with your fellow entrepreneurial colleagues.

Based on the quality and quantity of participants, you can gather advice or tips and learn innovative leadership solutions about the challenging aspects of financing your venture, from raising venture capital to the drafting of proposals to the design of your exit strategies.

Articles on venture capital are not limited to business pages or publications. There are websites which are specifically dedicated to venture capital ? these sites may post news stories or provide video streaming as well. News articles may be categorized into more specific topics such as buyout news, industry news, fund news and transition news.

When a site is classified into clearly defined sections, it makes it easier for the reader to choose which articles to read. So if you are interested in buyouts only, for example, then you don?t have to plow through all articles to find the information that you want. It also helps to have the articles arranged by date, to allow the reader the means to assign currency or relevance to the piece.

With the Internet being worldwide in scope, articles, papers and even application forms can be accessed by practically anyone anywhere, in the same way that we read news, visit offices and updates in our own countries. Everyone with web access can find ways to tap into the innovative leadership solutions being provided by venture capitalist firms.

This goes to show that the availability of venture capital is a worldwide phenomenon. However, in the US alone, close to $29.9 Billion was used for venture capital investment in 2007.

Today?s capitalists are no longer restricted to the US markets only but can now consider funding companies and businesses in China, India and other developing countries in Asia, the Pacific Rim or Middle East and Africa. This is good news for countries in these regions with vast manpower resources but limited access to equity funding.

Entrepreneurial executives can be better informed about the latest trends in VC. Last year, the trend was towards early stage investing. It was estimated that 35% of VC investments will go to seed-stage and early stage deals. On the other hand, expansion-stage funding showed signs of being decreased.

There are some really good websites which provide venture capital news and more. Aside from news, they also provide listings of venture capital firms and the companies that they helped fund.

Find these websites and bookmark them. For entrepreneurs, these sites provide the useful, innovative leadership solutions they need to learn more about the venture capitalist arena.

Celebrities gush over Canada [Photos]

As Canadians, we know we have the best country in the world (just taste the poutine!) but sometimes it's nice to hear it said out loud. Here are some famous entertainers who are clearly enchanted with the Great White North. Their gushing only reminds us of what we already know.

Jay Baruchel: "I truly, truly love my country and always have. In a country like Canada, we're not prone to jingoism and flag-waving, but I always was." (QMI Agency photo)

Ryan Reynolds: "I love Canada. It makes a nice hat for America. When America runs out of water, it's the first place I'll go. I gotta go home. I haven't been there in a long, long time." (WENN.COM)

Kristen Stewart: ?I feel like I should have dual citizenship...I?ve lived there numerous times. I love Vancouver.? (AFP photo)

Bruce Willis: "I had no idea Canada could be so much fun" (AFP photo)

Robert Pattinson: "I really like Canadians. Canadians vary, there's the East and the West coast Canadians but I really like working in Toronto. I like Torontonians. It was fun, it's a cool city." (AFP photo)

Carrie Underwood: ?The people are really cool. One of the first times I really got out and about in Canada, I went shopping all by myself, and nobody said a word to me. Nobody followed me to the bathroom or anything like that.?

Shania Twain: ?The gold goes to Canada's multicultural and tolerant society, which raised me to appreciate the importance of equality and compassion for others." (WENN.COM)

Kelly Ripa: "I?d be very interested to celebrate Christmas (in Alberta). I bet it?s just spectacular...It almost expect to see elves making toys outside my window when I wake up in the morning. It?s such as special place." (AFP photo)

Sarah Polley: "I do feel in the summer, when (Toronto is) humid, hot and sticky that it's kind of a sexy, hot, humid, popping colourful place. I think you have to live here to discover that side of it -- Toronto's not necessarily a city that jumps out at you if you're here for five nights. But if you actually live in the downtown area, where there's amazing residential areas in the middle of this urban environment, it's pretty amazing." (LAURA PEDERSEN/QMI AGENCY)

U.S. President Barack Obama: "Canada is one of the most impressive countries in the world." (AFP photo)

Mike Myers: "I come back lots. My family and friends are here (Toronto). I never really go too long without coming home." (AFP photo)

Rachel McAdams: "I feel very much at home (in Toronto) "I ride my bike everywhere. I have my favourite restaurants. My perfect day is riding to an amazing cinema called the Lightbox, then having a glass of wine and a quinoa salad." (Reuters files)

Jack White: "The air in Whitehorse, the accents of people in Newfoundland ? I just love that accent." (Reuters files)

Hugh Hefner: "They must be doing something right up there in Canada." (Reuters files)

Michael J. Fox: "If I?m having a bad hair day, I wear a touque. If I?m extra hungry I put some back bacon in my poutine. And if I?m watching the US and Canada play hockey, I?m sorry ? I?m wearing a maple leaf on my sweater." (WENN.COM)

Jane Fonda: "When I'm in Canada, I feel this is what the world should be like." (Reuters)

Dan Aykroyd: "Newfoundlanders represent the heart of Canada as a generous, compassionate, peacekeeping nation, with true, honest values and a love of the nation." (AFP photo)

Jim Carrey: "My upbringing in Canada made me the person I am. I will always be proud to be a Canadian." (WENN.COM)

Justin Bieber: "I?ll never be an American citizen. You guys are evil. Canada?s the best country in the world. We go to the doctor, and we don?t need to worry about paying him, but here, your whole life, you?re broke because of medical bills." (Ernest Doroszuk/QMI AGENCY)

Monster Clarity HD Model One

After focusing on headphones for the last few years, Monster, which recently dropped the word "Cables" from its company name, has moved into the speaker realm. The Clarity HD Model One is a pair of speakers that defies simple categorization?taller than a typical desktop or PC speaker pair, but not really a bookshelf speaker pair, either. One thing is for sure: They're expensive. At $749.95 (direct) for the pair, the Model One is a serious investment. The overall design of the self-powered system isn't quite up to snuff with the competition in this price range. But audio performance is undeniably powerful, with no distortion at top volumes and a delivery that, at more reasonable listening levels, brings out the best in music of all genres.

Design
These speakers are big. Wedge-shaped, and quite tall, they measure 15.5 by 9 by 6 inches (HWD). The front panel of each is protected by a transparent metallic speaker grille. Behind the grille, each speaker houses a 1-inch tweeter and a 6.5-inch woofer. Handle grips are built-in to the top panels of both speakers, where the right speaker also has an iPod/iPhone docking area, a Power button, and rubberized Volume knob.

Visually, the Clarity HD Model One?isn't going to impress everyone?the glossy look, the metallic grilles (that bend very easily when pressed), combined with their substantial height will make them stand out. And that's before we get to the color options, which are silver, bronze, red, or yellow. Slap on some logos and slogans, and they end with more of a recording studio feel than a living room look.

On the right speaker's rear panel, there's a high frequency level selector up near the top?it can be set to Flat (0), -2dB, or +2dB. This knob is a bit unique?you often find bass level adjustment knobs on speaker systems, or both high and low frequency adjusters, but rarely the high frequency adjuster on its own. I recommend leaving the knob in the flat position, but the slight tweak can be useful if you use the speakers in a particularly reflective space with lots of glass or marble, or one with lots of sound-absorbing surfaces, like carpets, sofas, and curtains. Both of these types of environments can have an effect on the perceived levels of high frequencies. Monster Clarity HD Model One colors

There's an 8-pin DIN connection port to the Left Speaker (and an extremely long cable is provided, so getting a wide stereo image shouldn't be a problem); a 3.5mm input for computers, MP3 players, and mobile devices; an RCA input for televisions or stereo component outputs; and left and right 1/4-inch inputs for mixers or pro-audio gear. The connector for the power cable is situated on the bottom of the rear panel. The left speaker's rear panel, meanwhile, has only the connection to the right speaker, and a vertical slogan that reads "because the music matters."

When an iPhone or iPod is docked, it defeats the inputs from other cabled devices. But a system like this, that aims to more or less replace the need for a stereo receiver by powering speakers internally, should have a source selection button so you can easily choose between RCA, iPhone, or 3.5mm inputs, instead of relying on the internal circuitry to make the decisions for you.

Unfortunately, there are no cables?other than the speaker connection cable?included for the system?a curious exclusion from a company that only recently removed the word "Cable" from its name. So, you'll need to supply your own 1/4-inch, RCA, and 3.5mm to make use of any of the inputs aside from the iPhone/iPod dock input.

There is also no video output, which makes it impossible to watch video from your iPhone on a big screen while listening to the audio through the speakers, unless you involve external devices. There are four adapter trays for the various supported?iPod and iPhone models, and a tiny, flimsy-feeling remote control with limited functionality?only Volume, Mute, Play/Pause, and Track Forward/Backward/Scan. There's no iPod menu navigation.

Performance
Regardless of the design, there's no denying the Clarity HD Model One system is very powerful. At maximum volume, which is extremely loud?louder than you'll likely ever need in a typical home use scenario, even when you are partying late into the night?the speakers never distort, even on deep bass tracks like the Knife's "Silent Shout," which has made a distorted mess of many speakers at even 75 percent volume.?

So at top volumes, you'll have a clean signal, but how do the speakers sound? While audiophiles may want to spend their cash on a more typical, non-powered, flat-response bookshelf speaker set, like the Paradigm Mini Monitors, those who enjoy deep bass but still crave a nice level of balance should definitely give the Model Ones a listen. There's some serious low-end presence here, but it's not over the top, and never muddles things. The primary area of focus seems to be more on the mids and highs, and not on making this system a thumping, low-frequency juggernaut.

Hip-hop and heavier rock tracks sound particularly powerful on the Clarity HD Model One, with bass lines playing a slightly secondary role to higher-pitched percussion and guitar licks. Radiohead's "Staircase," with its punchy bass groove, sounds fantastic, but it's the guitar line mimicking the bass, as well as the cymbal and percussion work, and of course, the vocals, that take center stage. The louder you turn things up, the more the bass becomes a larger part of the mix, but that's probably more psycho-acoustics than reality, and at moderate levels, the bass is still well-represented.

On instrumental tracks like the John Adams' modern classical piece, "The Chairman Dances," the system's substantial low end gives an excellent presence to the lower-register strings that can often get lost in the mix, but the stars of the show are the high frequency occupants, like the wooden percussion, flutes, and higher-register strings. The brass section in particular benefits from the nice balance between lows, mids, and highs, allowing both the growl and the resonance of the trombones to push through the mix.

We haven't tested too many speaker systems in this high price range. Of those we have reviewed, most have fallen into the category of AirPlay speaker docks, like the Libratone Live ($699.95, 3.5 stars) or the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Air ($599.95, 4 stars. Both of these systems are design pieces that make the Clarity HD Model One look a bit bland. Sonically, all offer solid audio quality, as well, but none of the speaker docks we've tested can come close in power to the Clarity HD Model One.?

If all of these systems are too pricey for your budget, but you'd still like a strong pair of stereo speakers for your computer and mobile devices, check out the excellent, simple Audioengine 5+ ($399, 4.5 stars). And if that price is still too high, the affordable Harman Kardon SoundSticks III ($169.95, 4.5 stars) are old standbys?not nearly on the sonic level of the aforementioned systems, but a great bargain for the price. The Clarity HD Model One cannot be described as a bargain?it's a bit overpriced given its design shortcomings, like the lack of a Source button and the limited remote control. There's no arguing that it's one of the loudest, cleanest systems we've tested, however, and at safe volumes, it represents every genre quite well.

May I reserve a chosen human? I will try to make my character as soon as possible. However, I really, really suggest that you do something with the size of the text. It's too small and I can't read it properly so...>___

EDIT: I also have a question. When you used the word 'Housing' what did you mean by it? Did you mean that the chosen humans will be a vessel of the daemons or the chosen humans let the daemon stay in their house? my English is not impressive, I'm sorry

Yes! More people!

Orientation basically refers to sexual orientation, e.g, heterosexual, bisexual, homosexual and so on and so forth. As for the residency, just describe where your character is living or the immediate area they inhabit.

If either of you would like an example for your characters or are just wondering what we're looking for in character sheets, cass and my character have been posted. They're still work in progresses and aren't near completion, but they'll give you a kind of feel for what we're looking for and hopefully answer anymore of you questions regarding the CS :P

Thank you all for taking an interest!

Awesome setting! I'd like to reserve a convicted daemon spot. Can't think of any immediate questions since there are CSs to take reference from now, but I'll ask if I think of something .

Strange Days, Indeed

In 1995, long before Tom Cruise was waving his hands around in now eerily true-to-life vision of the future that was "Minority Report," another science fiction drama was also painting a picture of the darker side of technology. In director Kathryn Bigelow's "Strange Days," (written by James Cameron and Jay Cocks), people and the technology they used to record their lives had practically merged.

Queen Street East is the heart of the Beach | Beach Metro ...

Queen Street - where does it begin? Where does it end? Queen Street at one time was Kingston Road, and then at one point in time one section became Queen, and Kingston was rerouted to where it begins presently, where Queen and Kingston meet.

Historically, we will start Queen Street where in my humble opinion the ?Beach? began ? that is, at the Ashbridge Estate. The Ashbridge family came from the U.S. after its war of Independence and settled on a few hundred acres of land in the present East End of Toronto. The family was headed by the matriarch, Sarah Ashbridge, and her family in 1793. The family was one of the original pioneers. Their homestead was near the present-day location of 1444 Queen St. E., and this is where I would place the beginning of the Beach. The Ashbridge estate, overlapped with present streets, went from Greenwood to Coxwell Avenue. The next pioneer was the Small family, who occupied the land from approximately Coxwell to Woodbine Avenue. The Smalls were brought over from England to help Lt. Gov. General Simcoe organize the territory which was later to be Ontario.

Queen Street in the East End is as old as Toronto, beginning in 1834 over the Don ? these suburbs were called Liberties and ended at the present MacLean Avenue. In later days, around 1908 to 1910, the city expanded right to Victoria Park, although in our case we will go to Fallingbrook.

On Queen there were at least five amusement and pleasure parks. Starting from Coxwell and Queen around 1900 was? Smalls Amusement Park, which was known by different names. Another was the Woodbine Race Track which often held carnivals and other recreation activities besides horse racing. Another picnic grounds was Kew Gardens (approximately 1876 to 1907). There was Scarboro Beach Amusement Park from 1907 to 1925. Another was Munro Park from 1896 to 1906. And finally there was Victoria Park from 1876 to 1896. All of these parks formed the reason why people from the city and beyond flocked to the beautiful Beach. The natural elements were their green luscious grass, silver, sandy beach, the cool, glistening water ? all of nature's bounty,? a haven for the people of the drab dismal city of Toronto.

Woodbine Avenue is where the purists all say is the beginning of the Beach. With the old fire hall standing as a sentinel, one might believe this is true. Kew Beach Fire Hall, era 1904-05, still stands with its clock tower counting historic times for the Beach community. This part of Queen originally was a dirt path that was opened up by pioneers such as Joe Williams of Kew Beach fame, and then later the homes and businesses arrived. On the southeast corner stood the stately home of Wm. Williamson, contractor-builder, built around the 1890s. Williams built the older Woodbine racetrack, Williamson Road School and many of the original cottages on the waterfront and the side streets. Originally the houses off Queen Street ? Kippendavie, Kenilworth, Waverley, Lee ? were cottages. The Beach area was the Muskoka of the City of Toronto. Later the businesses and storefronts arrived in front of the houses.

Going east at Kippendavie and Queen, we have the home of Norman Jewison, born on the southwest corner; on the southeast we have Kew Beach School, one of the oldest.

On the north side we have the original Phillip Whitelocks store; later he would move to another location.

Homes started sprouting up on Queen Street. This was the place to be. We would have religious places of worship. The Baptists came to Kenilworth Avenue, then moved up the street to Waverley Road. The old church would become the Beaches Hebrew Institute and later Beaches Synagogue (which just celebrated 90 years in the Beach). All religions came to live and worship in the Beach area, and still do to this present day.

This photo from the City Archives shows streetcar track construction in the late 1800s on Queen Street East, east of Lee Avenue. PHOTO: City of Toronto Archives, Fonds 200, Series 376

At Queen and Bellefair, we have Bellefair Methodist Church, later to become Bellefair United. On the south side was the original Kew Beach fire hall, it was a volunteer fire hall on land donated to the community by Joe Williams. At Queen and Lee we have the financial and commercial hub of the Beach. The Royal Bank, Toronto Dominion Bank, Bank of Nova Scotia: all were located in this area. The Beaches branch of the Toronto Public Library, nearly 100 years old, stands silently with the owl as the literary guide to all of those who love to read.

We had the Beach Theatre which was the largest theatre in the Beach, and the Family Theatre at Queen and Lee. We had the coliseum at Wineva and Queen, the Fox (formerly the Prince Edward, at Queen and Beech). These were the places where adults and children would see silent movies and later the talkies, all part of the Beach.

The Beach had sports galore. At Kew Beach we had 7,000 people coming to see a baseball game in the 1930s; lawn bowling was in fashion, along with tennis on the Lakefront and canoeing. Whatever one wanted in sports or entertainment, we had/have it here in the Beach. People came in droves 100 years ago and they come in droves now to hear and see art shows, the Beaches International Jazz Festival and more. Nowhere else? can you see events like this, only on Queen Street in the Beach.

Continuing on to Wineva is the United Church, circa 1882, originally the Union Church, later a Presbyterian Church, later a Methodist Church, now Beach United again, proud of its heritage.

Moving along, we come to Glen Manor and Queen where on? the south side we have the architectural wonders of the Price brothers Development, lovely columned large homes unlike any in the province of Ontario. On the north side of Glen Manor and Queen we have the Glen Stewart nature trail ? an oasis in the middle of the Beach running from Queen Street. You can walk north through the luscious green grass, through lovely unhampered trees with a beautiful stream in the middle of this great natural expanse. The sounds of birds of all varieties, and trees and squirrels are in abundance in this natural hideaway running up to Kingston Road.

Keep moving past the lovely homes on Queen to Balsam Avenue, straight to Beech Avenue and Queen, where the Balmy Beachers are located. At the bottom of Beech? stands the Balmy Beach club which is noted for its great spoils and achievements over the years. B.B.C. has won more olympic medals than any other sports club, as well as winning the Grey Cup in football in 1927.

Going east to Silver Birch, we come to St. Aidans Anglican Church. St. Aidans was originally a tent church which drew hundreds of worshippers on Sundays, who came to the eastern Beach for over 170 years. The architecture on these streets was more fashionable and the homes larger ? homes were built of stone and had larger lots, again an eclectic type of architecture in the Beach.

At the end of Queen Street we find the other sentinel of Queen: the R.C. Harris Water Filtration Plant ? the ?palace of purification?. It is a National Historic Site because of its art deco style. It is the only building in the Beach that cannot be demolished.

Fellow Beachers, this is just a few paragraphs that I have written on Queen Street ? the original pages I have written are well over 100 pages, so I modified them to what you read now. I will keep writing additional stories on Queen to try to save our lovely street, but I need your help to stop the intrusions on Queen St.

Historically yours, Gene Domagala

Spain tops Portugal in shootout to make Euro final

DONETSK, Ukraine (AP) ? Still not pretty to watch, still just as effective.

Spain again failed to dazzle at the European Championship yet still advanced to its third straight major championship final, beating Portugal 4-2 in a penalty shootout Wednesday following a scoreless draw after extra time.

"We're playing better in defense than what the characteristics of our players would suggest," Spain coach Vicente del Bosque said. "That's what earns victories."

After earning plaudits for the eye-catching one-touch passing that helped Spain win titles at Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup, this year's team is struggling to create chances. Against Portugal, the defending champions managed only one quality shot in regulation time.

It didn't matter, though, because the Spanish still came through when it mattered. Cesc Fabregas, who came on as a substitute in the second half, scored the deciding penalty after Bruno Alves hit the crossbar for Portugal moments earlier.

"I played poorly, but the team worked really hard," Fabregas said. "I had this intuition that we could advance if we went to penalties and that's what we did."

Spain will next face either Germany or Italy on Sunday in Kiev.

"Being in another final is a miracle," Fabregas said. "It's really incredible."

Cristiano Ronaldo had several chances for Portugal, but he sent three shots well over the crossbar as his team held its own for the entire match. The Real Madrid star, who came alive with three goals in his last two matches at the tournament, did not take a penalty in the shootout. He had been slated to take the fifth one, but it never got that far.

"Our players trained and were prepared for a situation like this," Portugal coach Paulo Bento said. "We didn't have much luck."

After an often dour opening 90 minutes, the match livened up in the 30 minutes of extra time.

Spain midfielder Andres Iniesta forced Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patricio into a superb reflex save in the 103rd minute. Iniesta ghosted into the penalty area then held his head in disbelief as Rui Patricio reacted brilliantly to get a strong hand on his shot after Jordi Alba cut the ball back toward the penalty spot.

Rui Patricio made another fine save to deny substitute Jesus Navas in the 111th.

"Both teams were stronger in defense in the first 90 minutes, but that balance was broken in extra time," Spain coach Vicente del Bosque said.

Tempers frayed at times, with Portugal center half Pepe getting a yellow card for a challenge on Xabi Alonso as they went for a high ball. Ronaldo also received some heavy challenges late in the match.

In the shootout, Xabi had the first attempt saved by Rui Patricio before Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas saved Joao Moutinho's shot. Iniesta, Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos then all scored for Spain, while Pepe and Nani answered for Portugal.

"The first one wasn't so lucky, and then we scored the rest of them," Casillas said. "Yes, we really were lucky. Everything is about luck sometimes."

Del Bosque ditched his unorthodox 4-6-0 formation for Wednesday's match and opted for a traditional striker ? but not the one many expected. Instead of Fernando Torres, it was Alvaro Negredo that got the start up front. But 10 minutes into the second half, Del Bosque replaced him with Fabregas.

Although Negredo worked hard, his lack of movement made him easy to mark. Spain improved as Fabregas made clever runs to stretch the defense and the defending champions dominated most of extra time with the substitution of Pedro Rodriguez for midfielder Xavi Hernandez late in the match.

"I think we were better in the first 90 minutes. Then in extra time we were less efficient," Bento said. "When we couldn't take advantage of our opportunities, Spain got stronger."

Rui Patricio was a big help in goal for Portugal, but much more was expected from Ronaldo. The winger had a chance, albeit a difficult one, to win the game in the 90th minute when Portugal poured forward after clearing a free kick. But Raul Meireles' pass was fractionally behind Ronaldo and, with momentum lost, he had to check his run and sent his shot high and wide.

Ronaldo briefly threatened early in the first half, whipping over a cross from the left wing that Casillas grabbed before Nani could head it in. He also sent a free kick into the wall after too easily tumbling under a challenge.

Working as a unit, Portugal started to gain the upper hand midway through the first half. Moutinho flicked the ball into the path of Ronaldo, whose wild shot flew over the net.

"Everyone helped to control Ronaldo," Del Bosque said.

MineralTree Grabs $6.3M To Give SMBs A Secure Alternative To Online Banking

screen-shot-2011-11-08-at-4-29-11-am Gartner estimates that more than 10 percent of small businesses have been the victim of theft and/or fraud, with losses totaling more than $2 billion. That's because small businesses are more or less forced to rely on a variety of ad hoc and manual processes, paper checks and online bill pay systems, which mean complexity, higher security risks and less control. MineralTree emerged out of stealth mode last November to come to the rescue of small businesses.

Akitio MyCloud Mini Personal Cloud Server

The Akitio My Cloud Mini Personal Server ($100, street) is a NAS that's a hybrid of local and cloud storage. The data you save to the internal drive or on attached USB or eSATA drives is accessible through the myakitio cloud service as long as you have an Internet connection. The MyCloud Mini is an intriguing little box with customization options and good features. The device is more likely to be embraced by those who like to spend time learning the nuances of their technology devices since not all configuration options and features are intuitive to set up, setup documentation needs work, and the interface is seriously wonky. The device is an interesting and decent NAS option overall, (though somewhat pricey for its capabilities) and the management interface seems like it could use a firmware upgrade, stat.

Specs
MyCloud Mini is a small desktop form factor measuring 1.3 by 4.8 by 4.8 inches (HWD). The box is surprisingly heavy?considering the size?weighing a little over a pound. Aluminum housing gives the NAS a sturdy, if somewhat plain, appearance.

The front panel has the Akitio logo and one power LED. The rear panel has two USB 2.0 ports, an eSATA port, and a Gigabit Ethernet port. There's also a reset button, a power button, and a K-slot for physical security.

You can install a 2.5 inch SATA drive but you have to supply it yourself since the device ships diskless.? Internal maximum storage capacity is 1.5TB. You can attach USB external drives formatted with FAT32, NTFS, HFS, EXT2, EXT3, EXT4, or XFS. The device also supports USB printers.

The internal SATA disk and the external eSATA drive being attached can be configured with RAID 0 or RAID 1 to expand capacity.

Setup
The setup process leaves room for improvement. First, there isn't sufficient documentation about installing and configuring the SATA drive.? There's no setup software, so you have to rely on the hard copy Quick Install guide that the NAS ships with, which has somewhat confusing instructions.

After installing the HDD, the guide instructs connecting the NAS to your network. The next step is to mount a partition from a newly installed SATA or USB drive from the Disk Manager. Although the guide does not specify how to get to Disk Manager, I found Disk Manager located within the Web-based management software. You have to login to the Web portal first, so the instructions seem a bit backward.

The web-based management portal is available at www.myakitio.com. To access, you have to enter the MAC address of the device and a username and password; all of which are located on a sticker at the bottom of the NAS. You can register the MyCloud Mini and give it an actual hostname, rather than use the MAC address every time to login.
The Web interface, which is called iSharing, seems to have an issue handling a fresh install of a new drive. When I first accessed the management interface home page, I saw a spinning cursor. When the spinning stopped, I got the message, "Get data error."

When I clicked off the message, another window displayed that the system was running without a home partition and needed to be mounted. I clicked "Mount," but the system did not detect any drives. I decided to manually start up Disk Manager.

Disk Manager gives three options to configure disks: Auto, Advanced, and Expert. The latter two allow for manual configuration and with Auto, the system creates a suitable partition and formats the drives. Auto is the recommended option.? I selected Auto and again, got the circling cursor, then a message on-screen: "Completed."

There was no further information about viewing the drives, or what was actually done to them. I clicked Disk Manager again and once more, got the screen which lets you choose from Auto, Advanced, and Expert drive setup.

Reaching a point of exasperation, I selected "Expert" as a setup option, and could see my SATA drive was configured with a home partition formatted with XFS as well as a swap partition. The setup process is circuitous, unintuitive, and could flow better.

Rain from Tropical Strom Debby drenches Florida

MIAMI (AP) ? Tropical Storm Debby spun drenching rains Monday over northern Florida as it hung nearly stationary over the Gulf of Mexico, threatening to inundate low-lying neighborhoods.

Tropical storm warnings were in effect along the Florida Panhandle as the storm parked offshore. Even with the storm's center far from land, it lashed Florida with heavy rains and spawned isolated tornadoes that killed at least one person.

And in Alabama, crews planned to continue searching for a South Carolina man who disappeared in rough surf Sunday afternoon. The man, whose name and hometown were not immediately released, was vacationing with his family when he went underwater around 1:45 p.m. Sunday, said Melvin Shepherd, director of beach safety for Orange Beach, Ala.

The storm also prompted the closing of the sole bridge to St. George Island, popular vacation island in Florida.

Residents in several counties near the crook of Florida's elbow were urged to leave low-lying neighborhoods because of the threat of flooding. High winds forced the closure of an interstate bridge that spans Tampa Bay and links St. Petersburg with areas to the southeast. In several locations, homes and businesses were damaged by high winds authorities believe were from tornadoes.

Authorities in the Tampa Bay area were asking residents and tourists to stay away from flooded streets. Some streets were still under water early Monday, while others were blocked with debris.

The constant barrage of wind and rain triggered fears of the widespread flooding that occurred across the Florida Panhandle during Hurricane Dennis in 2005. Officials on Monday said the main bridge to St. George Island was closed as the storm loomed. Power was already out on the island and authorities said it could be out for days.

As of 8 a.m. EDT Monday, Debby's center was essentially stationary about 90 miles (145 kilometers) south-southwest of Apalachicola, Fla. Debby's top sustained winds were around 50 mph (85 kph) with little change in strength expected over the next day or so. The forecast map indicated the storm could inch forward through the week, eventually coming ashore over the Panhandle. However, a storm's path is difficult to discern days in advance.

Underscoring the unpredictable nature of tropical storms, forecasters discontinued a tropical storm warning Sunday afternoon for Louisiana after forecast models indicated Debby wasn't likely to turn west. At one point, forecasters expected the storm to come ashore in that state.

"There are always going to be errors in making predictions. There is never going to be a perfect forecast," said Chris Landsea, a meteorologist at the National Hurricane Center.

A major concern will be flooding from heavy rainfall. The storm is moving slowly, allowing its clouds more time to unload rain. A public advisory said parts of northern Florida could get 10 to 15 inches of rain, with some areas getting as much as 25 inches.

The Highlands County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that several tornadoes moved through the area southeast of Tampa, damaging homes.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Nell Hays said a woman was found dead in a house in Venus that was destroyed in the storm. A child found in the same house was taken to the hospital. No further information was available on the child's condition or either person's age.

Authorities urged residents to leave low-lying neighborhoods in Franklin, Taylor and Wakulla counties because of flooding. Shelters were open in the area.

Wind tore the roof off a marina in St. Pete Beach, and a pier was heavily damaged, said Tom Iovino, a Pinellas County government spokesman. He said no injuries were reported.

As of Sunday, 23 percent of oil and gas production in the region had been suspended, according to a government hurricane response team. Employees have been evacuated from 13 drilling rigs and 61 production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.

The storm was not expected to result in higher oil and gas prices.

"It's largely a non-event for oil," said Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst at the Oil Price Information Service.

MLM Businesses Are Legitmate Home Based Businesses | home ...

MLM businesses are known as Multi Level Marketing Businesses and they are legitimate home based businesses. Of course, like any business, there are the good and legitimate ones as well as the bad, so it is important to know what to look for when searching for a MLM business.

This type of business is also known by other names and they are network marketing, direct selling and referral marketing because this is some of its marketing methods. Of course this business is just like any other business in that it needs to promote and sell and so it uses a variety of marketing methods to achieve this.

It is called Multi Level Marketing because of how the structure is designed to create a sales force by paying people who join the company for the sales they make as well as the sales of the other people they recruit under them, thus creating a hierarchy.

However, it is not only these businesses that have such a hierarchy. If you look at the structure of most large businesses, there are managers over sales people with managers over the managers who all get paid commission and bonuses all along the chain of command right up to the head of the company.

The term pyramid selling has been widely used and associated with MLM?s but not all use this illegal system of selling, however, you should be aware that there are pyramid schemes trying to recruit people and do not join up with them.

To find legitimate home based businesses that are MLM?s or any other type of business it is best to follow a plan of information gathering and then carefully considering that information before committing your valuable money and time.

The first thing you should do is to research the company by looking at the history of the company and how well it has performed and check to see if there are any good or bad reports about it. Then ask various questions from the people concerned and talk to other people who work with the company to gauge how well it performs.

Do not expect anyone to tell you how much they actually earn. You will get a fair idea by finding out what their level is and how long they took to get there, however, be aware that as everyone operates differently and has different needs from their business their income levels and length of service will vary so make sure take this into consideration.

Then go to your friends, family and your financial specialists for their advice as it is always good idea to be able to talk things through and they may also have some knowledge or information that could help you.

You should also find out about the products as they may not actually suit you or be in agreement with own values. You have to feel comfortable when selling a product to a customer so this is an important consideration.

Ask how much it is to join and what the ongoing costs are such as if there are there degrees of startup costs and can you go up to another level later as your income increases.

Also ask about any restrictions and guidelines that exist such as advertising rules.

Another important item to find out about is training and what skills and equipment are needed. You may not currently have all the skills but with proper training you could be able to do the required tasks. It is always good to stretch yourself and learn new skills.

Even though you are your own boss it is extremely important to have backup and support as there are times when you will want to go on holidays or get sick, so if there is a good backup system in place you won?t have to worry about your business. Plus it is wonderful to be part of a great team that you can rely on and who all help each other.

Marketing is another major task so ask whether marketing materials are supplied as some companies do supply some for you which is an enormous help when just starting a new business plus this will help with ensuring you follow the guidelines and rules.

Then once you are armed with this information, take your time in evaluating it and seeing if it will fit in with your own desires, wishes and skill sets. Do not allow yourself to be rushed into joining too quickly or putting more money in than you feel comfortable with. It is your business so it is important that you feel right and happy about your decision.

Wishing you success in finding your own legitimate home based businesses!

Egypt's Morsi: Bloodshed will not be in vain

Egypt has elected a conservative president who has said he wants to impose Islamic law. How he will change the country remains unclear. NBC's Richard Engel reports.

By NBC News and msnbc.com news services

Updated at 4:05 p.m. ET: CAIRO -? Mohammed Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood-backed candidate, was declared Egypt?s first Islamist president on Sunday with 51.7 percent of last weekend's run-off vote, defeating Ahmed Shafiq, who had been tapped as prime minister by former President Hosni Mubarak.

In an address to Egyptians late Sunday night, Morsi reiterated his platform of unifying all Egyptians. Of those who died while protesting more than a year ago, he said, "Their blood will not go in vain."

Morsi becomes Egypt?s fifth president, following Mubarak, who was president for nearly 30 years before mass protests across the country forced him to resign in February 2011.

The announcement by the state election committee Sunday touched off a jubilant celebration in Cairo's Tahrir Square, where tens of thousands of Brotherhood supporters had gathered in 97-degree heat. The crowd waved national flags and chanted "Allahu Akbar!" or "God is great!"

Morsi?will be sworn in on July 1, according to the election timetable.

His victory followed?speculation about backroom deals and suspected interference by the ruling military council in determining the outcome in favor of Shafiq, Mubarak?s prime minister.

In his speech Sunday night, Morsi said that contrary to popular belief, he was grateful to the police, whom he called his "brothers and children." He said he would rely on them to maintain "security from the inside."

Supporters of Mohammed Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood's candidate, protest against Egypt's military rulers in Tahrir Square on Saturday.

Morsi, who received an engineering degree from the University of Southern California in the early 1980s according to media reports, was a last-minute candidate, chosen to represent the Brotherhood after their preferred choice was disqualified.

On the campaign trail, he promised to institute Islamic law. One of his supporters, cleric Safwat el-Hegazy, issued a direct challenge to Israel, calling for a Muslim super-state across the Middle East with Jerusalem as its capital.

Morsi, 60, distanced himself from the cleric?s comments, but they trailed him on the campaign despite his assertion that he will respect international treaties, including the 1979 peace accord, on which much U.S. aid depends. He said he will not, however, meet with Israeli officials, according to the BBC.

He has also pledged to form an inclusive government to appeal to the many Egyptians, including a large Christian minority worried about potential religious rule. He has repeated that he would maintain his independence from the Brotherhood and not turn Egypt into a theocracy.

Morsi won the first round ballot in May with less than a quarter of the vote.

NBC Foreign Correspondent Ayman Mohyeldin reports from Tahrir Square.

There were some isolated scuffles in parts of Cairo between rival groups on Sunday. Several hundred Shafiq supporters in the middle-class suburb of Nasr City chanted "Save Egypt! The Brotherhood will destroy it!'' while soldiers tried to keep traffic moving.

The military council will retain control of the biggest army in the Middle East, whose closest ally is the United States.?

Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, who heads the military council that has ruled Egypt for more than 16 months, congratulated the Muslim Brotherhood's candidate after his presidential election win was confirmed, state television reported.?The report, made in a brief headline, did not give further details.

Morsi "will likely face foot-dragging and perhaps outright attempts to undermine his initiatives from key institutions," Elijah Zarwan, senior policy fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations, said in Cairo. "Faced with such resistance, frustration may tempt him fall into the trap of attempting to throw his new weight around. This would be a mistake. His challenge is to lead a bitterly divided, fearful, and angry population toward a peaceful democratic outcome, without becoming a reviled scapegoat for continued military rule."

Egyptians fill Cairo's Tahrir Square in anticipation of a new government being announced. NBC's Richard Engel reports.

Egypt's ruling armed forces were on alert on Sunday as fears of violence mounted in the final hours before the state election committee named the winner.

Sunday's result -- 500 days after the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak -- is historic for the Middle East, but will not end power struggles between the army, Islamists and others over Egypt's future.

The generals, who oversaw Mubarak's departure, have repeatedly said, both to Egyptians and to their close U.S. ally, that they will return to barracks and hand over to civilian rule. But they present themselves as guardians of Egypt's security and long-term interests and moved to block the Islamists from taking more than a share of power.

The military has held power in Egypt for nearly 60 years since the revolution to overthrow a dynasty.

Iran's Foreign Ministry congratulated Egyptians on Sunday for Morsi's victory, saying Egypt was in the final stages of an "Islamic Awakening."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu?s office released a statement saying he "appreciates the democratic process in Egypt and respects its outcome."

"Israel expects continue cooperation with the Egyptian administration on the basis of the peace accord between the two countries, which is in the interest of the two peoples and contributes to regional stability,'' the statement said.

NBC's Andrea Mitchell examines the obstacles ahead for President-elect Mohammed Morsi of Egypt.

The son of a peasant farmer, Morsi has spoken of a simple childhood in a village in the Nile Delta province of Sharqia, recalling how his mother taught him prayer and the Koran. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Southern California in 1982 after studying at Cairo University.?

Following his studies in the United States, he returned to Egypt in 1985. Two of his five children hold U.S. citizenship.?
